Heart Health

Course Summary

Coronary heart disease is the leading cause of death in the developed world and incidence is rising in developing countries. Despite media attention to heart disease, many people remain unaware of the risk factors. This eight-session course, written by a cardiac specialist, covers the most important topics in cardiovascular health and heart-healthy living. The course can be taught as a community health seminar, as part of an evangelism project, during a health expo, in small groups, and in many other venues. The 8-module course creates friendships with members of the community as an opening for addressing spiritual health at a later time.

What do I need to know?

After completing this course, you will earn 0.8 CEU and a certificate of completion in your Adventist Learning Community e-portfolio.

What will I learn in this course?

You will learn critical cardiovascular health and heart-healthy living principles. This course is not a portion of a health care practitioner license. It does not give you the right to diagnose, prescribe, or oversee medical treatment of any kind. If you or someone you know is experiencing a chronic medical condition, please contact a family physician. If you or someone you know is experiencing a medical emergency, call 911 or activate your local emergency response system.

About the Instructor

Dr. Peter Landless is the Executive Director of the International Commission for the Prevention of Alcoholism and Drug Dependency (ICPA) and Director of the General Conference Health Ministries Department. He is originally from South Africa, where he was in academic and private practice as a clinical cardiologist with a special interest in nuclear cardiology. He was also actively involved in pastoral work and is an ordained minister of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. The first eleven years of practice were spent in a mission program, which included obtaining a specialty in family medicine. During this time, two congregations were planted and church buildings completed. While specializing in internal medicine and cardiology, he was the associate pastor/pastor of a local congregation. He is privileged to have had a distinguished military and academic career, and a blessed, blended ministry involvement in the Lord's vineyard.

This course has good information. I liked the format of reading the PowerPoint and taking the quiz. I couldn’t get the regular power point to load, but I could get the presenters view to load.
