Community Services & Urban Ministry Certification Program

Course Summary

Join Dr. May-Ellen Colon, Dr. Sung Kwon, and a team of highly qualified professionals as you learn the information and skills necessary to implement an effective Adventist Community Services program in your area. This curriculum is the result of a collaborative effort between the General Conference Sabbath School and Personal Ministries Department and the North American Division Community Services Department. Providing services to your community is an essential ministry function of every church congregation and can transform the area where you are serving, filling it with compassion, healing, and new life.

What do I need to know?

This course contains fifteen learning modules, which include instructional videos, learning activities, power point presentations, video scripts, and quizzes. Additional reading materials, and learning activities are available throughout the learning modules. After watching video instruction, completing the learning activities and additional readings, and completing the module quizzes, you will earn 2.0 continuing education units. Please carefully complete all learning activities and collect downloadable resources prior to proceeding to the next lesson.

What will I learn in this course?

The purpose of this course is to give you the tools necessary to launch and provide high quality, consistent community services through your Adventist Community Services department. You can make a difference! Once you have completed all 15 learning modules, an on-line certificate for basic certification will be automatically generated (2 CEU). To be eligible for Module 16, you must complete this course AND all of the learning activities in the course. In addition, you must bring (electronically or hard copy) all completed learning activities to Module 16 training. In order to get your full certification, completion of module 16 must be done in person, in real-time, with a facilitator in a classroom utilizing the Flipped Classroom learning model. Module 16 is under construction and will be available in April 2017 by contacting Dr. May-Ellen Colon or Dr. Sung Kwon. For additional information about the entire CS & UMCP course, for permission to use the course as a facilitator in a group setting, to modify documents, etc., please contact below: General Conference Adventist Community Services International: Dr. May-Ellen Colon - colonm@gc.adventist.org OR North American Division Adventist Community Services: Dr. Sung Kwon - sungkwon@nadadventist.org

This curse has taught me a lot about Community Services. In other words, along with proclaiming the great truths about salvation we are to minister to the needs of others using. Success will come by using Christ's Method alone!
