Course Summary

The Bridge to Secondary course will provide you with a review of the big picture philosophy of the Encounter Bible Curriculum and the overarching holistic goals for spiritual growth. You will explore the pedagogical framework of the curriculum and learn how to plan and teach from a Secondary Encounter unit. You will review Biblical concepts and use the classroom context to help students build lifelong relationships with Christ, using the Bible as the source of truth. As you progress through this course, you will review the instructional practices and assessment strategies used in the Secondary Encounter Curriculum.

After completing this training course, you will earn 0.2 CEUs and a certificate of completion in your Adventist Learning Community e-portfolio.

What Will I Learn In This Course?

By the end of this course you will be able to: Understand the key ingredients of a spiritual growing environment. Identify pedagogical strategies that contribute to a classroom culture of thinking and learning. Understand the Transformational Planning Framework as a transformational teaching tool in the teaching of Bible. Incorporate thinking routines into Bible class in order to maximize mental engagement and authentic spiritual learning. Understand the importance of both content and process in teaching Bible. Understand and interpret the elements featured in a teaching unit. Describe how an understanding of biblical discipleship can inform a contemporary understanding of what it means to be a disciple. Understand some of the relevant issues that impact assessment in the Adventist Encounter Curriculum.

Instructor

Nina Atecheson

Nina is very passionate about inspiring teachers to know and share Jesus with children and teenagers in meaningful ways. She has taught English and Bible to Grades 7-12, and is the main author and trainer of the Secondary Encounter Bible curriculum. While writing, she has worked as Secondary Curriculum Officer for Adventist Schools Australia, Associate Secondary Director of Education for the North American Division, and is currently working as Adventist Identity Officer for Adventist Schools Australia. Her ongoing prayer is that Encounter Bible will not only change the spiritual culture of schools, but that it will impact teacher’s lives so that they will have a deeper walk with the Lord.
